Ask what the procedure involves, what evidence supports it and what maintaining the result could cost.
PRP in context
Platelet-rich plasma treatment uses a preparation from a person's blood injected into the scalp. A 2024 review covering eight randomized trials and one cohort study, with 291 participants, found potential improvements in hair density and count. Low evidence quality, bias concerns and variation between protocols limit confidence.
The label “PRP” does not describe one standardized product or one visit schedule. Ask which protocol the clinic uses and how closely it matches the evidence it cites.
Microneedling is a separate procedure.
Do not assume a microneedling package, home roller or radiofrequency treatment is equivalent to the PRP studies. Ask a dermatologist about evidence for the exact method, infection and scarring risks, and whether it changes absorption of any scalp medication. We do not provide a home needling protocol.
Ask for a written treatment plan
- Diagnosis and why this procedure is being proposed.
- Who performs it, their credentials and how sterile equipment is handled.
- Initial sessions, expected reassessment and possible maintenance visits.
- Full first-year cost, cancellation terms and what is included.
- How response is measured and what happens if there is little benefit.
A discounted bundle does not establish clinical value. Compare the plan with appropriate alternatives before making a multi-session commitment.
